A SATA hard disc stores data on magnetic discs which spin at very high revolutions per minute, and are read by an electronic read-write head. The Serial Advanced Technology Attachment interface of the hard disc enables data transfers from the hard drive to the system motherboard so that data can be stored or retrieved. SATA hard discs are now widely used as the main data storage components in both PC and server environments, as they are able to store large quantities of data and are cheaper than most other comparable storage mediums. Data such as documents, media files, software, and backups can all be stored on a SATA hard disc.
