I've been thinking about this for a while and I'm genuinely curious about what other Audi owners think about this. I've had my 2016 A5 for about three years now and it's been mostly trouble-free, but I'm always paranoid about the transmission because I know how expensive these repairs can be. I'm the kind of driver who's pretty gentle on the car, I don't floor it from stoplights, I try to avoid hard braking, and I'm generally just a smooth and patient driver. But I have a friend who drives the exact same model as me, same year, similar mileage, and he's been through two transmission repairs already. The main difference between us is that he drives his car really hard, lots of aggressive acceleration, late braking, the whole thing. I've been wondering if that's actually the reason his transmission has had problems while mine is still going strong, or if it's just luck of the draw with these cars. I've read a lot about how DSG and S-tronic transmissions can be sensitive to driving habits, especially things like coming to a complete stop before shifting from reverse to drive, or not resting your foot on the brake pedal while waiting at traffic lights. I try to be mindful of all these little things, but I'm not sure if it actually makes a difference or if I'm just being overly cautious. I've also heard that doing regular fluid changes is way more important than driving style, and that if you neglect the maintenance, it doesn't matter how gently you drive because the transmission will still fail eventually. I'm trying to figure out if I should be doing anything differently to maximize the life of my transmission, or if I'm already doing everything I can and I just need to hope for the best.
